Bike lifter injured in police firing in Goalpara

GOALPARA: Jakaria Sikdar, a suspected bike lifter from Boguan area of West Goalpara on Thursday morning, was injured in police firing at Kumri area near the Naranarayan Setu bridge.

"The incident occurred when he tried to escape from the scene by pointing a pistol at the police team which ordered him to stop his vehicle," said Mrinal Deka, Additional Superintendent of Police, Goalpara district.

Meanwhile, the private vehicle being used by Jakaria met with an accident reportedly post firing and fell into a ditch near the Rver Brahmaputra. Jakaria was immediately admitted at the Bhalukdubi Civil Hospital and is in a critical condition. Police have recovered two pistols and objectionable documents from the incident site.
