Birth anniversary of Lachit Barphukan celebrated in Kolkata

DHUBRI: Bir Lachit Barphukan's Quadricentennial (400th) birth anniversary was celebrated by Bharatiya Itihas Sankalan Samiti Assam in collaboration with 400th Birth Anniversary Celebration Committee (West Bengal Chapter) on Sunday in Ozone Convention Centre, New Town, Kolkata. Rajya Sabha MP from Assam, Pabitra Margherita, Member of Parliament, Rajya Sabha and Political Secretary to the Chief Minister of Assam, inaugurated the programme with his speech where he spoke of the military strategy and dedication of Bir Lachit Barphukan.

He recalled the need to rediscover other unsung heroes like Prithu etc. Major General Ananta Bhuyan vividly narrated the military strategy and tactics which were used by Lachit Barphukan.

In his keynote address, Dr Balmukund Pandey, organising secretary of Akhil Bharatiya Itihas Sankalan Yojana, narrated the glory and valour of Lachit Barphukan, which need to be brought into the mainstream not only in Bharat but also throughout the world.Finally, he urged everyone to make every effort to bring the glory of Lachit, Prithu, and other unsung heroes to light so that they are remembered as significant figures in Bharat's history."Dr. Ramesh Deka, Vice Chancellor of Cotton University, Hemanta Dhing Majumder, Khetra Organising Secretary, Uttar Purba, ABIS, Dr. Jishnu Basu, Samik Bhattacharjee, and Prof. Bimal Shankar Nanda were among the dignitaries present. Chorus, solo and group dances, poem recitation, and dance drama were performed by a group of ladies from Kolkata under the supervision of cultural secretary Lekha Gogoi and advisor Dr Kabita Mukherjee to make the celebration more appealing and eventful.
