TEZPUR: The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), in collaboration with the District Industries and Commerce Centre (DI&CC), Sonitpur, hosted an Industry Meet here, focusing on quality enhancement and global competitiveness for local industries.
Key stakeholders from the rice, tea, and handloom sectors participated in discussions on the significance of standardization in improving marketability and global acceptance. The event commenced with a welcome address by Morgan Meston, General Manager of DI&CC Sonitpur, followed by a keynote speech by MLA Prithviraj Rabha, who emphasized the region’s potential and the importance of adhering to quality standards.
Interactive sessions allowed industry representatives to discuss challenges and explore how BIS certifications could enhance product quality. Rice industry stakeholders stressed the importance of export readiness, tea producers focused on maintaining Assam’s global reputation, and handloom representatives highlighted the role of standardization in promoting traditional crafts.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Pritam Agarwala, followed by a networking lunch that encouraged collaboration. This initiative marks a significant step in aligning Assam’s industries with national and international quality benchmarks, fostering growth and innovation.
