BJP-AGP Sweep Thengal Kachari Council Polls in Assam's Lakhimpur

The ruling BJP and its ally party AGP have swept the TKAC (Thengal Kachari Autonomous Council) polls in the Lakhimpur, Assam.

GUWAHATI: In a recent development, the ruling party of BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) and its alliance party AGP (Asom Gana Parishad) have swept the TKAC (Thengal Kachari Autonomous Council) polls in the Lakhimpur district of Assam.

On Monday 24 January the results of the council polls were declared by the election conducting body.

Out of the 5 council constituencies in the Lakhimpur district, the ruling BJP won three seats on the other hand the BJP's ally party Asom Gana Parishad bagged the remaining two seats.

The three seats won by BJP in Lakhimpur are No. 19 Bihpuria South (ST), No. 18 Lakhimpur East (ST-Women) and No. 17 Pavo (ST).

The alliance party of the ruling BJP, Ason Gana Parishad won in the constituencies namely No. 20 Jokaipeluwa-Harmoty (ST) and No. 16 Bihpuria-Pub Dikrong (ST).

BJP leader Keshab Neog earned 713 votes by defeating one of his near rivals named Thanwswar Saikia.

Thanwswar Saikia contested in the polls as an independent candidate and secured 631 votes in the seat of No. 17 Pavo (Laluk ST) with a margin of a total of 82 votes.

Jyoti Bora Saikia from Bharatiya Janata Party received a total of 790 votes in the seat of No. 18 Lakhimpur East (ST-Women). Saikia defeated Tulumoni Sonowal Bora from the Congress party by a margin of total 128 votes.

Rama Kanta Bora who contested as an independent candidate was defeated by Kesharam Bora from the BJP party. Kesharam Bora secured a total of 844 votes in the No. 19 Bihpuria South (ST) seat and Bora on the other side earned 407 votes by a margin of 437 total votes.

Batu Krishna Bora who is a veteran candidate in the polls election was defeated by Lekhan Bora from the party of AGP. Lekhen Bora gathered 890 votes and his closest rivalBatu Krishna Bora secured 593 votes by a margin of 297 votes in the seat of No. 16 Bihpuria-Pub Dikrong of TKAC (Thengal Kachari Autonomous Council).

In a similar way, Apurba Hazarika secured 540 votes by a margin of 306 votes and was defeated by Dharmeswar Hazarika from the AGP party. Dharmeswar Hazarika received a total of 846 votes in the seat of No. 20 Jokaupeluwa Harmoty by giving a defeat to his closest competitor Apurba Hazarika.
