NAGAON: The ruling BJP and its allies have retained Nagaon Municipality Board as well as other three town committees - Raha, Kampur and Dhing in civic polls by sweeping all oppositions.
As per poll results declared on Wednesday here, the ruling BJP alone captured 22 wards among 26 in Nagaon Municipality Board while its alliance partner Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) occupied three wards. Significantly, the opposition Congress had to be pleased only with a ward among 26 in Nagaon Municipality Board.
It is pertinent to mention that among 26 wards, the ruling BJP fielded its candidates in 22 wards and left 4 wards for its alliance partner AGP. Significantly, three BJP candidates from wards no 8, 10 and 26 were declared uncontested winner earlier. The only ward that the opposition Congress was able to hold on was ward no 20.
Among those BJP candidates who won the wards in Nagaon municipality board, they were Mallika Sutradhar (ward no 1), Bulbuli Shaha (ward no 2), Nabanita Medhi Bora (ward no 3), Hema Jawar (ward no 4), Gajen Bora (ward no 5), Nitumoni Bora (ward no 6), Alok Moni Bhattacharya (ward no 7), Arup Bordoloi (ward no 9), Bijoy Kumar Gupta (ward no 11), Jakir Hussain Chowdhury (ward no 12), Molay Kr Bora (ward no 14), Kishore Kumar Das (ward no 16), Swapna Rai Ludh (ward no 17), Subrata Dutta (ward no 18), Simpi Bora (ward no 19) Subhankar Sutradhar (ward no 21), Deep Ligira (ward no 22), Gopal Ch Saikia (ward no 23) and Sunia Dutta (ward no 25).
Similarly, the AGP candidates Monalisa Boruah Rahman, Mukta Joisuwal and Rupali Saikia captured the wards no 13, 15 and 24 respectively while the opposition Congress candidate Abdul Kadir won in the ward no 20.
