KOKRAJHAR: In the last leg of election campaign in BTC for the second phase of BTC poll on Tuesday, North-East Democratic Alliance convener and State Finance Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma told the voters of BTC not to vote for the Hagrama Mohilary-led Bodoland People's Front (BPF). He also said that the alliance of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) with BPF would not go beyond April, 2021.

After attending a brief meeting at DN Himatsingka field, Shantinagar in Kokrajhar town on Tuesday, Sarma flagged off a grand bike rally from the field and moved to Fakiragram to campaign for BJP candidate Arup Kr. Dey. The electioneering campaign for the second phase of general elections to the Bodoland Territorial Council for 19 constituencies to be held on December 10 concluded on Tuesday evening at 4 pm in Kokrajhar and Chirang districts.

In an interview with media persons, Sarma predicted that BPF would bite the dust in the BTC elections as the people were voting for change and welfare activities. He said that the BPF could win only one seat in Udalguri and Baksa districts in the first phase of BTC polls and the party would be wiped away in the polls.

Sarma also said that the alliance of the BJP and the BPF in the State for five years would not be extended any further. He said that the present alliance would continue only till April next year. He appealed to all sections of people to vote against the Hagrama Mohilary-led BPF party and to vote in favour of like-minded independent candidates or suitable party candidates who could work with the BJP.

Sarma was accompanied by Assam BJP chief Ranjit Kumar Dass, BJP MPs Dilip Saikia and Kamakhya Prasad Tassa, and other leaders in the road show as well as bike rally in support of BJP party candidates organized at Salakati, Debargaon and Fakiragram constituencies.
