KHERONI: In a significant political development, more than 1,400 workers from Opposition parties including the Congress and the All Party Hill Leaders Conference (APHLC) officially joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) during a massive rally held at Hawaipur Higher Secondary School Playground in West Karbi Anglong on Tuesday.
The event was jointly organized by the BJP Amreng and Kapili Mandal committees and was attended by Chief Executive Member (CEM) of the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) Tuliram Ronghang, who welcomed the new entrants into the party fold. The rally drew an enthusiastic crowd of over 5,000 BJP supporters, signalling the party’s growing influence in the hill district.
Addressing the gathering as chief guest, CEM Ronghang called for united efforts among all communities to ensure lasting peace and inclusive development across the region. He assured that the KAAC, under BJP governance, remained committed to equitable progress and announced plans to construct a community hall and stage at the rally venue, alongside continued infrastructure development in the Amreng and Kapili constituencies.
In his opening remarks, Pawan Kumar, Member of Autonomous Council (MAC) from 7 No. Kapili, lauded Ronghang’s leadership and outlined various achievements under his administration. Executive Member and MAC of 09 No. Amreng constituency Rina Terangpi also highlighted the numerous welfare and infrastructure projects executed by the BJP government in the district.
The rally was further strengthened by the presence of several key political leaders, including Lok Sabha Member of Parliament (MP) Amarsing Tisso, and Members of Legislative Assembly (MLAs) Bidya Sing Engleng (Diphu LAC), Darsing Ronghang (Howraghat LAC), and Rupsing Teron (Baithalangso LAC). Other dignitaries included KAAC Executive Members, MACs, board chairmen, former MAC Chandra Bahadur Chetri, and office bearers of the BJP’s district committee.
Radip Ronghang, President of BJP West Karbi Anglong district, and other senior leaders were also in attendance.
