DHUBRI: Dhubri district BJP observed ‘Black Day’ on the completion of 50 years since the declaration of Emergency by the Congress Government under the leadership of Indira Gandhi on June 25, 1975. This day and act is infamous for the trampling of democratic values and the constitution of the country and since then, the day is observed as ‘Black Day’ by the party.
To register strong protest on this day, a meeting was held in the BJP district party office. During the meeting, speaker after speaker strongly criticized the Congress for its corruption, misconduct, and unconstitutional actions, and appealed to the present generation to be aware of this black day of history. The speakers highlighted the atrocities levelled on the people and party which didn’t fall in line with the Congress policy during the Emergency. The four pillars of democracy-Legislature, Judiciary, Executive, and the Media-as well as the general public bore the brunt of severe oppression and suppression, speakers added.
‘Black Day’ was also observed across all Mandals under Dhubri district.
