KOKRAJHAR: As the Bodo National Students Union (BONSU), led by Bonjit Manjil Basumatary as its president, has been going ahead with the Bodoland statehood movement, the Bodoland Janajati Suraksha Mancha (BJSM) today sent their endorsement towards their demand. The working president of the BJSM, Daorao Dekhreb Narzary, in a statement said they have full support on the Bodoland statehood demand of BONSU.

On Wednesday, they staged a demonstration at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi reiterating their demand to create a Bodoland state. It is to be mentioned that the demand for the creation of Bodoland state is a long-standing demand of the Bodo people in Assam. The demonstrators gathered at Jantar Mantar with playcards written with the old slogan- “Divide Assam 50/50””, “No Bodoland No Rest”.

The president of the BONSU, Bonjit Manjil Basumatary, told this correspondent that there will be no solution to Bodo issues and no end to the discrimination done to the Bodo people on the basis of language, religion, social, political, and economic issues by the Assam Government unless the separate Bodoland is created.

The delegation of BONSU later submitted a memorandum to the President of India, Droupadi Murmu, and the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, demanding a separate state of Bodoland. The student union also submitted a memo to the Minister of Tribal Affairs of India, Juel Oram, demanding ST (Hills) status for the Bodos living in Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao and a fresh reminder to the Minister of Defence, Rajnath Singh, demanding a Bodo Regiment in the Indian Army.
