KOKRAJHAR: Bodoland Janajati Suraksha Mancha (BJSM) on Friday expressed strong resentment over the allotment of community-wise restricted holidays to 26 communities in BTC without verifying the historical facts and credentials.
Talking to a group of media persons, the working president of BJSM D. D. Narzary said the government of BTR in its budget session on April 23 brought proposal of restricted holidays to 26 communities in which December 22 is alloted to Kalita community as restricted holiday, which, according to him was not acceptable in terms of history. He said they had no idea that Kalita becomes a separate community in BTC. He also said Pragjyotish was not connected to Kalitas but it was connected with the history of Mech Kachari who ruled over Pragjyotishpur which later, was called as Kamrupa. There is no meaning to allot this day to Kalitas who have no history with Pragjyotish.
Narzary said the Bodo Kachari were called as Mech, Mlech and they were the rulers of Pragjyotishpur. He recalled the Mech connections with Mahabharata and gave example of Bhagadatta, Hirimba and Anirudha’s historical relevance with Pragjyotishpur. He criticized the government of BTR for allotting restricted holidays to communities without proper verification and historical relevance. He added that the current council leadership made a mistake out of self-interest, but that no one has the authority to manipulate or falsify history.
The restricted holiday for International Day of World’s Indigenous People was also allotted to Adivasi (AASAA) but it is a student organization not a community. Besides, the International Day of World’s Indigenous People is celebrated by all other tribal communities including the Bodos, not only by Adivasi or AASAA. The BJSM slammed the council government that they must stop pleasing others with wrong vision to fulfil its interest.
