BONGAIGAON: This is the story of a poor blind family begging in the streets of Bongaigaon for help and food under the blazing sun.

Buddhiram Barman (72) lives in a small hut at Samsan para of New Bongaigaon with his wife Minu Barman, (40), son Rabi Barman (10), daughter Laksmi Barman (8), daughter Saraswati Barman (4) and son Ashish Barman (1 year). Among the six family members, four are completely blind since birth. These include Buddheswar, Minu, Laksmi and Saraswati.

People of Bongaigaon see this family begging on the Bir Chilaray flyover in the same spot. The family has no other means of livelihood. Buddheswar is from Harbhanga Khuriyabari village of Kokrajhar district. Due to some family clash he had to leave his house and had been moving here and there. Finally he settled down in the Samsan Ghat area.

This family needs help. Though the government has spent a lot of money for the welfare of physically challenged people, yet this family has not been covered under any government scheme.
