LAKHIMPUR: The Block-level Health Melas, which were conducted in Lakhimpur district from April 18 as part of the celebration of 'Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav', concluded on Friday.

The final two Health Melas of the district were organized at Dhakuakhona Subdivisional Civil Hospital (SDCH) and Ghilamora Community Health Centre (CHC). The event organized at Dhakuakhana SDCH began with a presentation of Taka Bihu performed by the women of Ghahigaon. It was inaugurated by Dhakuakhana Subdivisional OBC Board chairperson Hemanta Gogoi. The inaugural session of the event was held under the management of Dhakuakhana SDCH employee Raju Chutia. Dhakuakhana SDO (Civil) Arindam Baruah attended the event as guest of honour while Joint Director of Health Services Dr, Manoj Kumar Das, Additional Chief Medical Officer Dr. Gunin Kumar Gogoi were present as invited guests. Lakhimpur District Program Manager of National Health Mission Debanga Bikash Gogoi explained the objective of the event. The staff-nurses of the hospital also presented Bihu in the event wherein several medical officers were present. Earlier, the Health Melas were conducted at Naoboicha CHC on April 18, at Boginadi Model Hospital on April 19, at Narayanpur Model Hospital on April 20 and at Bongalmora CHC on April 21.

These Health Melas were organized in view of providing quality health care services with essential medicines, through different systems of medicine, all free of cost. They will also help in informing people about the various health programs being carried out by the Central Government, State Government, NGOs etc. The main components of the health melas were — digital ID generation, issue of Ayushman Bharat Gold Card, NCD screening of oral cancer, diabetes, hypertension etc, tele-consultation and referral, basic health care services of gynecology pediatrics, ENT, eye, dental, surgery, medicine etc, awareness generation and health education and promotion of wellness activities like yoga, meditation etc.
