KOKRAJHAR: As the political aspects of the Bodos and other tribal communities are getting threatened at the direct interference of National political parties in BTC elections, the 16 democratic Bodo organizations made an appeal to the BPF and the UPPL to get united for the interest of safeguarding political rights of the Bodos and other tribal people. As the deadline for response from BPF and UPPL was set for August 12, the ABSU, BSS, Ex-BLT Welfare Cooperative Society and the Ex-NDFB Welfare Association have appealed both the parties to give their response within the specific time. The four democratic organizations on Saturday held a joint press conference at Bodofa House in Kokrajhar with their unification move.

In the press conference, the president of ABSU-Dipen Boro said, “The move for uniting both BPF and UPPL at the initiative of democratic organizations was going on and there had been discussions held in Siliguri, Guwahati and Kokrajhar and the UPPL president Pramod Boro respecting the appeal of ABSU and BSS, had given them his positive gesture. He said they had received written response from a party and verbal response from the other. He added that efforts to bring the two major parties together gained momentum in 2024 and that they resumed their efforts in accordance with their intentions.

Boro said only three days are left to get their response for the unification. According to him, they wanted the two parties to begin talking about settling strategies. He said that the Bodos saw all democratic organisations, with the exception of BPF and UPPL, cooperating, and that the Bodos were in difficulties because regional parties were not united. As a result, he said, both BPF and UPPL should come forward for discussion. He added that the unification of two regional parties was also desired by the Coordination Committee of BTR organisations, a vast platform that encompasses all BTC communities.

General Secretary of Bodo Sahitya Sabha (BSS) Nilo Kanta Goyary said the two regional political parties, UPPL and BPF, had been in massive election campaigns for the forthcoming BTC elections. He said people wanted them united in fighting elections to ensure victory of the regional force. Additionally, he stated that they sent the spirit of the joint meeting to UPPL President Pramod Boro and BPF President Hagrama Mohilary, asking them to respond by August 12; however, they have not yet received a response.
