ORANG: The political temperature in the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) has risen sharply as the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) continues to gain ground ahead of the upcoming elections. In a significant boost to the party’s strength, more than 300 supporters of the United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL) from various parts of the Bhergaon Council Constituency formally joined BJP on Friday. The joining ceremony, held in the 32nd Council Constituency, witnessed the presence of Udalguri District BJP general secretary and prominent youth leader Joushrang Boro. Addressing the gathering, Boro declared that the BJP’s objective in the BTR is not to defeat political opponents but to secure victory for the region’s progress. “The BJP does not contest elections in the BTR merely to remove others from power. Even if we form the government, it will be in partnership with the UPPL and the Bodoland People’s Front (BPF). A political tsunami is coming in favour of the BJP,” Boro asserted. He emphasised that the BJP holds no enmity towards the BPF or UPPL, recognising the democratic right of all parties to contest elections. However, responding to the public sentiment in the BTR, the BJP is prepared to contest independently this time.
