ORANG: With the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) elections likely to be held between September 18 and 20, the political landscape in the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) is heating up. Major political parties including the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL), Bodoland People’s Front (BPF), Jai Bharat Party, and the Congress have sounded the poll bugle, gearing up for a fierce electoral contest.
Speculation is rife regarding the potential outcome of the elections, with widespread discussions centered on whether Biswajit Daimary, the current Speaker of the Assam Legislative Assembly, might emerge as the next BTC chief.
Speaking at an organizational meeting of the BJP held on Sunday at Jagannath Bhawan in Orangajuli tea estate under the 33 No. Nonoi Serfang Council Constituency, Daimary stated, “As Speaker of the Assembly, I cannot comment on political matters, but I am actively involved in supervising development works in my constituency.”
Daimary’s presence at the event and his interactions with grassroots workers were seen as a clear signal of the BJP’s strategic groundwork in the region. In a powerful statement aimed at party cohesion, he said, “The people of BTR want a BJP-led government. Whosoever the party nominates as the BTC chief will receive the people’s support.” With the announcement of election dates expected soon, the coming weeks promise a dynamic political atmosphere in the BTR, as all eyes remain fixed on alliances, candidates, and the roadmap for development in the region.
