HAFLONG: The lifeless body of 26-year-old Rosmita Hojai, who went missing on June 5, was found along a riverbank in Pauri Garhwal district, Uttarakhand, on Tuesday morning. The discovery raised questions on the circumstances that led to the death of the young woman from Dima Hasao.

The body has been sent for autopsy, and the police are investigating the circumstances leading to her death. Two individuals, Hemant Sharma from Mohindergarh, Delhi, and Pankaj Kokar from Rohtak, Haryana, who had reported her disappearance to Shivpuri Police Station, were detained for further questioning. They alleged that Rosmita was swept away by the river.

Rosmita, a resident of Hojai village in Dima Hasao, had travelled to Delhi for a Railway Recruitment Board (RRB) examination. According to her family, Rosmita had contacted her mother on the evening of June 5, claiming that she was returning by train, which raised suspicions as it was unlike her to make such a statement. Fearing that she might have been under duress, her family had started searching for her.

Meanwhile, all the civil societies expressed serious concern and demanded appropriate investigation by high officials to find out how she died in the river away from Delhi. An FIR has been lodged at Haflong Police Station by Rosmita’s family member.
