BOKO: Nandita Das, MLA of Boko constituency and also president of Assam Pradesh Mahila Congress, along with other party members, visited the house of the bereaved family of Phalu Das, an inhabitant of Chotemari village under Barkhetri LAC, Nalbari on Monday.

After visiting the bereaved family of Phalu Das, Nandita Das said, “It is a matter of great concern that despite having all requisite documents like NRC of 1951, legacy data of 1971 and the voter list of 1966, Phalu Das was put in the detention camp in 2017, declaring him as foreigner. Due to the tremendous mental pressure, shock and lack of medical healthcare, he died on October 25 this year in the detention camp.”

“The family of Phalu Das refused to accept his body as he was declared a foreigner when he was alive and now the authority told them that he was an Indian citizen only. We condemn this sort of attitude of the government and demand that such injustice should not be done to Indian citizens on the pretext of not having some documents,” she added.

MLA Das also alleged that the government neglected the health of the people in detention camps and that was why Phalu Das lost his life. His family had requested that he should be hospitalized due to his deteriorating health condition but the administration denied permission.
