
GUWAHATI: The residents of the Ranthali area in the Nagaon district of Assam experienced a sudden fear after witnessing bomb-like items in the area on Friday 4 February.
As per reports, panic gripped the area as the locals woke up on Friday morning and found items similar to a bomb in a construction site of Ranthali field in Nagaon.
The items looking like a bomb was recovered by the locals of the areas at the time of excavation of a land area for construction activities.
The locals further stated that the excavator hit something under the ground while digging the land for excavation.
On getting suspected of the hitting object, the excavators searched in the land and they found that there were 2 packets seem like a bomb. After identifying the object as something similar to a bomb, the locals informed the police about the same.
As per the information received from the locals of the Ranthali location, the bomb squads reached the spot for inquiry about the explosive-like item.
According to locals, the field in Ranthali had a ULFA base around 25 years ago which led to the burial of the explosives. The sudden recovery of such bomb-like items in Nagaon has brought shock and panic among the people living in the area.
However, it is not yet clear whether the bomb-like strange items are actually explosive or not. But there are reports that those items found are two powerful improvised explosive devices (IEDs) buried long ago.
Meanwhile, the Nagaon police have initiated a detailed investigation over the incident to find out what the object is all about.
On the basis of the preliminary investigation, it is reported that the items might have been buried underground many years ago which remained in the area undisturbed.
