BONGAIGAON: As a fruit to the untiring efforts of the district administration, Bongaigaon district achieved a remarkable 0 per cent positivity rate as on August 30.

Talking to mediapersons, Dr M S Lakshmi Priya, Deputy Commissioner of Bongaigaon, said that a total of 3,249 Rapid Antigen Tests were carried out as on August 30 and they showed a positivity rate of 0.0 per cent, which was a remarkable achievement considering the impending threat of third wave of COVID across India and especially the Northeast. Bongaigaon has continued to report a trend of steadily declining active cases. At present, the number of active cases is 11 out of which 8 are in institutional quarantine and three are in home quarantine.

"Several steps taken in prevention of COVID-19 in Bongaigaon district such as increase in testing in vaccination sites, target areas, contact tracing led to decreasing positivity rate over the last few months. Miking in large scale led to increase in testing for IEC Communication, strict enforcement of COVID lockdown (after 5 pm) as well as of COVID protocols in public places with active involvement of community leaders, monitoring of cases via Live sheet, Anganwadi workers used for intense monitoring of pregnant women and children if they were positive or had come in contact with an infected person etc- all these helped to bring down the positivity rate," she said.

She added that vaccination had been administered in more than 50 locations in Bongaigaon district, thereby achieved a remarkable 69 per cent coverage of first dose and 14 per cent coverage of second dose. "Moreover, being pioneer of saving the doses in the district, till now 26,618 doses have been saved by preventing wastage from extra dose. Extra dose means saving the little amount of vaccine from each vial, which normally exists in each vial. Storing all this, we got a good amount of extra doses," she said.

"For vaccination also special steps have been adopted such as miking in large scale for wide publicity, specific targets given to ASHAs and Jeevika Sathis," said the DC. "The district administration of Bongaigaon will continue to keep up its fight against the COVID pandemic to save lives and bring the State's economy back on track," the DC added.
