KOKRAJHAR: In another achievement, the Bongaigaon Refinery (BGR), situated at Dhaligaon in the Chirang district, has received more applause and honour for their key role in eliminating TB. The Governor of Assam honoured Bongaigaon Refinery for its active role in eliminating TB in Assam.

Sources from the SM (CC&CSR) of BGR informed The Sentinel that Nayan Kumar Barua, Executive Director & Refinery Head of the Bongaigaon Refinery, was honoured by the Governor of Assam, Lakshman Prasad Acharya, for the refinery’s significant contribution to the “TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan by 2025.” Sources said the BGR’s commitment to this national initiative was demonstrated by its adoption of 250 TB patients in each of the districts of Chirang, Bongaigaon, and Kokrajhar. This proactive approach aligns with the Government of India’s ambitious goal of eliminating tuberculosis by 2025.

By taking on this responsibility, Bongaigaon Refinery is not only fulfilling its corporate social responsibility but also making a tangible impact on public health. This initiative underscores the Bongaigaon Refinery’s dedication to the well-being of the communities it serves and its role in creating a healthier and more prosperous society. The felicitation ceremony took place at the Auditorium of Gauhati Medical College & Hospital recently during the launch of the state-level 100-day ‘Intensified Campaign for TB Elimination.’ This nationwide campaign aims to intensify efforts to reduce TB incidence and related deaths across 347 high-priority districts in 33 states and union territories. The 100-day campaign will employ a comprehensive strategy to accelerate TB elimination efforts. The key strategies include early detection and proactive care, rapid identification, targeted outreach focusing on high-burden areas and vulnerable populations to ensure comprehensive coverage and timely intervention, community engagement, strengthening health systems, and a comprehensive approach by combining these strategies.

The 100-day campaign aims to accelerate the identification, diagnosis, treatment, and cure of TB cases, ultimately leading to a significant reduction in TB incidence and related deaths. By implementing these strategies, the 100-day campaign aims to significantly reduce the burden of TB and move closer to the goal of a TB-free India.
