Book donation drive held by Gargaon College

SIVASAGAR: Gargaon College, in collaboration with its Internal Quality Assurance Cell, Gargaon College Employees Association, and the teaching fraternity, organised a book donation drive at a primary school in Lonkak Gohain gaon, a rural village adopted by Gargaon College, as part of its institutional and social responsibility on Saturday.

The programme was organized in the village in the presence of renowned author and academician and Principal of Gargaon College, Dr Sabyasachi Mahanta, IQAC Coordinator, Dr Surajit Saikia, President of Gargaon College Employee's Association, Luhit Gogoi. The headmistress of the school, fraternity of the Mothers' association of the school, parents, guardians and the students attended the drive with much anticipation. The prime objective of the programme was to enrich the library of the school with books and thus a generous number of books that varied among age groups were donated.

Dr Mahanta in his deliberation highlighted on the value of reading and how it leads to not just intellectual development of the students but contributes towards the wholesome personality development. He encouraged the school students to read vivaciously and pledged to extend a helping hand to quench the thirst of knowledge. He also expressed his gratitude towards the people for their time and hospitality.

Dr Surajit Saikia, IQAC coordinator, urged students and teachers to talk about the issues they are encountering in preparation for the forthcoming Gunotsav programme so that they may be resolved. The drive ended with the optimistic hope that Gargaon College will continue to be closely involved by providing assistance for the overall progress of the village.
