Morigaon: In a solemn atmosphere a book titled ‘Namu Ustad’ was formally released by the district commissioner Debashis Sarma today at Morigaon Pabitora Hut. In memory of the local noted artiste, late Nirmal Kalita, the book ‘Namu Ustad’, edited by Kalyani Deka, was released based on his artiste life. A meeting in conjunction with the releasing of the book was held under the presidentship of retired principal Debashwar Goswami.

The meeting discussed the dedication of the late Nirmal Kalita towards the upliftment of classical songs in Assamese society. Internationally famed music legend Dr Bhupen Hazarika sang a few songs composed by late Nirmal Kalita, who was born in 1930 at Telahi, Morigaon, and died in 1984. On his birth anniversary, his family released the book in the presence of noted artists Kamal Katoki, Surya Goswami and Lokeshwar Deka. Earlier, the family members felicitated the invited guests with traditional gamusa in the programme.
