DOOMDOOMA: The first book of well-known writer Birke Bahadur Thapa 'Bauddhik Sanghat Aru Jiwanar Bishad Ityadi' was released at a book inauguration meeting-cum-symposium on 'Bauddhik Biporjay, Ajir Prajanma Aru Amar Bhabishyat' organised under the auspices of Na-Dihing Kabyalochani at Doomdooma Press Club on Sunday.

The symposium was held first with Prakash Dutta, former Secretary, Tinsukia Zila Xahitya Xabha (TZXX) and former Headmaster, Rupai High School as Co-ordinator while Sivajit Dutta, Assistant Professor, Doomdooma college spoke on the subject as a chief speaker. Narrating the intellectual process since the days of Socrates, he opined that intellectuals are pathfinders of truth. But the road is thorny. Pretty often the intellectuals have to face the wrath of the power be in their quest for truth. But unlike those clever and opportunist section among them, they hardly compromise with the establishment.

To drive home his point, he cited the examples of Galileo Galilei, the inventor of telescope, who was prosecuted by Roman Catholic for his support for haliocentrism i.e. the theory that propounded the earth and other planets move around the sun and Sri Sri Sankardeva, the great vaishnavite saint of Assam, who had to take recourse in the court of King Naranarayan in Kochbehar during mediaeval period. It is because of discoveries of new truths that civilization progressed, he said.
