BOKO: A woman constable from Border Security Force (BSF) based under the Tura headquarters, Meghalaya but attached to a battalion in Cooch Behar for sporting activities has been found hanging on March 20 morning inside the battalion complex under mysterious conditions. When tragedy occurred, she was stationed with the 129th BSF battalion in Cooch Behar to compete in a karate competition. Although first indications from the BSF indicate that it was a suicide, the victim's family and friends are not persuaded.

The victim, 28 year old Dhritashri Rabha, was a karate martial artist and a sporting champion for the border force. She went to 129 battalion in Cooch Behar on July 20, 2022 for the Karate Competition from 45 BN BSF Hallaidiganj in West Garo Hills district of Meghalaya.

She is from Dakuapara village of Boko in Kamrup district of Assam; she belonged to 45th Battalion of the BSF based at Hallaidiganj, West Garo Hills. “She had spoken to her family and recently had also purchased a plot of land. She was the sole breadwinner of the family, we are unable to believe she would take her own life,” her neighbour Chandan Rabha said.

A post mortem has been conducted on the body at Cooch Behar itself and its report is awaited. BSF personnel took her body to her house at Dakuapara from Cooch Behar on Tuesday morning. Her unexpected death has cast a pall of gloom in the Boko area. She left her mother Leela Rabha and Deepsikha Rabha, younger sister and other family members. BSF personnel fired shots into the air during her funeral ceremonies as a sign of respect.

Her younger sister Deepsikha Rabha said that they came to know about the incident around 10 am on Monday from Dhritashri Rabha’s friend from Cooch Behar but no information was given by Cooch Behar BSF battalion. Later, they got a call from the BSF office in Tura.

“I feel that she didn’t commit suicide. I suspect it to be a murder,” Deepshikha added. “She wanted to visit next month for the Rongali Bihu celebration, even on Sunday night she spoke to us very nicely. She was even asking us for needful items, so that she can bring them,” her mother Leela Rabha said.
