SILCHAR: The BSF (Border Security Force) has prevented a child marriage at the border village of Kabol under Nilambazar Police Station in the district of Karimganj.

The nuptial tie was to take place near the border outpost of Bilbari manned by 134 Bn. The information was received from intelligence wing and troops of the Battalion which indicated that the under-aged teens got married on July 14. The 15 year-old girl and the boy 20-year-old Jiban Ahmed are from different villages of the district.

It is reported that after the consent the widow mother of Ayesha, the child marriage was to be conducted by Kazi Mujibur Rahman. Such a marriage is unlawful under the 'Prohibition of Child Marriage Act-2006'.

The girl along with her mother and the boy were brought to Nilambazar Police Station where an FIR was lodged against them. The case will be taken up by the Child Welfare Committee, stated the media in-charge of the BSF.

Such a noble action by the BSF has been hailed by social workers.
