Kokrajhar: In a significant political development ahead of the 2025 Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) elections, the Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) on Monday announced its first list of 22 candidates. The Phase-I announcement marks the party’s official entry into the high-stakes BTC poll race as it aims to reclaim lost political ground in the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR).

BPF president and former BTC Chief Hagrama Mohilary will contest from Debargaon, leading a diverse lineup of candidates representing constituencies across the BTR. The list reflects a strategic balance between seasoned politicians and emerging grassroots leaders suggesting the party’s intent to rebuild its support base and reconnect with voters across various communities.

The full list of candidates announced in Phase-I is as follows:

  1. Parbatjhora – Moon Moon Brahma

  2. Guma – Antaz Ali

  3. Srirampur – Mukleswar Ahmed

  4. Soraibil – Mritunjoy Narzary

Speaking at the announcement, BPF leaders expressed confidence that the party’s candidate selection reflected the aspirations of the people and would rejuvenate trust in the BPF’s leadership. “We are committed to the welfare of BTR. This list is just the beginning of our efforts to reconnect with the people and serve their aspirations,” a senior BPF member stated.

The BPF had ruled the BTC for several consecutive terms before losing power in 2020 to the United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL) in alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The upcoming elections, therefore, are being seen as a critical opportunity for the party to stage a comeback and regain control over the region’s governance.

With the political climate heating up, rival parties such as the UPPL, BJP, and Congress are also gearing up with their strategies and prospective candidate lists. The electoral battlefield in the BTR is expected to be fiercely contested, with development, autonomy, and ethnic representation forming key themes of the campaign discourse.

BPF sources confirmed that additional phases of candidate announcements will follow in the coming weeks, as the party finalizes its full electoral strategy.

As the countdown to the 2025 BTC elections begins, all eyes remain on how BPF’s candidates perform in a political landscape that has significantly evolved since their last term in power.
