Big Breakthrough in Tingrai Blast Case: Assam Police Arrests Two People

Tingrai Blast Case: Big breakthrough Tinsukia Police arrested two people, Hiren Gogoi and Ranjeet Changmai, 19, in connection with the Tingrai grenade blast in Digboi. Ranjeet has been identified as the person riding the bike.

Gogoi was apprehended from his residence at Digboi's Lakhipather in Tinsukia district of upper Assam last night by Assam Police.

Sources said that their motorcycle has been found identical to one captured in CC TV footage collected from near the explosion site. "He was earlier involved in small mischievous act like local extortion," said a security officer in engaged in the man hunt.

Sources said that the apprehended youth has been taken to district police custody for further interrogation.

On Saturday, Tinsukia Police announced a reward of Rs 2 lakh to anyone who gives any information about the people involved in the grenade attack in Digboi's Tinrai market that left two people dead and an equal number of people injured. They have announced this cash reward hoping that some people would come forward with any information they may have about the people involved in the blast that took place outside a hardware shop in the market. The police have also released pictures of the two motorcycle-borne suspects and asked people to share information on 8638018965 via phone or WhatsApp.

Assam CM Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma, on the same day, visited the blast site and met the family members of Surajit Talukdar, who succumbed to his injuries at Assam Medical College and Hospital in Dibrugarh. The CM had also directed DGP Assam Police to get the blast investigated and stern and appropriate action be taken against those involved.

On Sunday, Union Minister Rameshwar Teli, Assam Cabinet Minister Sanjay Kishan and Digboi MLA Suren Phukan met the family members of Tingrai market blast victims and handed over the cheques of Rs 5 lakh each.
