LAKHIMPUR: After the celebration of upcoming Rongali Bihu, the people of Dhakuakhana in Lakhimpur district, irrespective of their castes and creed, will celebrate the historic Phat Bihu, the convergence of ethnic culture, at Mohghuli Chapori on the bank of river Charikoriya this year too. The festival will be celebrated with three-day long colourful programmes from May 12 to May 14.
For this, extensive preparations have been underway at the Phat Bihu celebration venue. Currently the bank of Charikoriya River is seen illuminated with a festive mood with blended notes of Bihu Naam and Bihu related musical instruments practised by Bihu enthusiastic youths and artistes who will take part in the festival.
Simultaneously, a Bihu workshop has also been underway at the same venue from March 25 to select the Bihuwas and Bihuwotis of Dhakuakhana subdivision who will participate in the “largest Bihu dance performance to be held in Guwahati on April 14 in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Notably, a total of 210 Bihuwas and Bihuwotis will take part in the said event from Dhakuakhana subdivision.
On the other hand, the Phat Bihu Ranga Mancha has been renewed for the celebration of the festival on the designated days holding on the glory of the past. The rejuvenated Ranga Mancha was inaugurated by Lakhimpur MP Pradan Baruah and Dhakuakhana MLA Naba Kumar Doley. The Mancha was recently renewed with the investment of a fund amounting to Rs. 10 lakh allotted from Lakhimpur Parliamentary Area Development Fund. On this occasion, a ceremonial meeting was organized, wherein the Phat Bihu Celebration Committee submitted a memorandum to the MP and the MLA with ten-fold demands. Through the memorandum, the Government of Assam is urged to declare a local holiday on anyone day during the Phat Bihu celebration, to build lodging infrastructure in the Phat Bihu celebration complex to attract tourists, to build permanent infrastructures as representation of various ethnic cultures of the State, to include Phat Bihu in the calendar of the State tourism.
