BTC chief Pramod Boro opens thematic entrance gateway to Kokrajhar town

KOKRAJHAR: Chief Executive Member (CEM) of BTC Pramod Boro on Wednesday ceremonially inaugurated the beautiful entrance gate way to Bodoland headquarter town-Kokrajhar, the city of peace, designed with the cultural heritage of the Bodos. Boro inaugurated the thematic gate in the presence of Minister UG Brahma, BTC Speaker Katiram Boro, MP Joyanta Basumatary, BTC EMs Ranjit Basumatary, Dr Nilut Swargiary, Wilson Hasda, Rakesh Brahma, Gautam Das, and Ukhil Mushahary, MLAs Lawrence Islary and Jiron Basumatary, MCLAs Sanjay Swargiary, Joy Mashahary, Madhav Chandra Chetri, BTC Principal Secretary, Akash Deep, and prominent dignitaries.

In his speech, BTC chief Pramod Boro said that the thematic entrance gate way to Kokrajhar at Karigaon was an idea to attract the visitors to Kokrajhar town and that the design of this gate was a composition of Bodo culture and heritage. He also said that they would think about the installation of a unity pillar in Kokrajhar reflecting the cultural heritage of diverse communities to foster peace and integrity. He further said that two more large statues of Jwhwlao Dwimalu and Sikhna Jwhwlao  would be installed on both sides of the gate in the days to come.

Constructed at a cost of around Rs 1 crore, the thematic gate is a notable landmark that reflects the cultural and artistic heritage of the region. The gate is designed to showcase the rich cultural heritage and traditions of the local community, particularly the Bodo people. The gate may serve as a tourist attraction, drawing visitors interested in exploring the region’s cultural heritage. The gate’s design may in future incorporate symbols, motifs, or patterns that are significant to the local culture, adding to its thematic nature. It is a representation of the region’s rich cultural heritage and a testament to the community’s commitment to preserving their traditions. The architect of the beautiful gate is Sanjib Daimary.

From the Karigaon thematic gate, Kokrajhar town is 20 km away by road. The Jwhwlao Dwimalu road from Karigaon to Kokrajhar is a two way road named after legendary Kachari hero Bir Dwimalu whose statue also stands in front of the gate along National Highway 31 (C).

Students from various parts of the country come for higher studies in Kokrajhar at the Bodoland University, Kokrajhar Medical College and Hospital, Central Institute of Technology (CIT), a deemed-to-be University, Bineswar Brahma Engineering College, Gaide-Helena Nursing Institute, Bodoland Administration Staff College, and other important colleges. A second university and Binod (Dabla) Football Academy are also coming up in Kokrajhar. Kokrajhar is one of the safest zones for women as there has been no record of crimes against women by local communities.
