KOKRAJHAR: Ridiculing the opposition Bodoland People's Front (BPF) which abstained from taking part in the BTC budget session held on Friday, the chief of BTC, Pramod Boro said that the members of the opposition had gone for a picnic to Chirang arranged by WPT&BC minister Chandan Brahma instead of attending the budget session. This proved their lack of moral responsibility towards the people of the region, he added.

Talking to reporters, Boro said that it was unfortunate that not a single member from the opposition took part in the budget session. He said that the BPF members felt it necessary to attend the session only when the BPF was in power. Now that they were out of power, they did not think it necessary to attend any BTC session. He said that this was showing disregard for the democratic system of the country. "The opposition has equal responsibility for adopting any government decision and policy," he said. He added that the opposition had lost the credibility of being a responsible opposition. He called upon the opposition members not to repeat the same mistake and to come to the session in future.

On the other hand, former Rajya Sabha MP and founder president of the United People's Party Liberal (UPPL) UG Brahma said in a post that it was the best opportunity for the BPF to establish the party as a people's party by playing the role of a constructive opposition. "Abstaining from BTC budget session is not healthy politics. If they fail to act as opposition then they will fail in totality as a party also. If they are thinking about launching agitation outside just because they lost power, then that also will not help them," he said, adding, "Let them show their maturity and take on the ruling parties with their experience in every crucial matter."
