TANGLA: Bodoland Territorial Council Executive Member (EM) of Health and Family Welfare, Arup Kumar Dey made a surprise visit to the 200-bedded Udalguri Civil Hospital in Udalguri district on Wednesday to learn about the quality of services being extended to the patients.

He expressed strong displeasure over the irregularities in the hospital. He also interacted with the patients and their relatives. He also took stock of the functioning of the hospital and assured of stern action against negligence by the doctors and medical staff in the hospital According to sources, he instructed the officials concerned to utilize the government funds and facilities to improve the quality of services being provided.

Executive Member Dey, accompanied by Rowta BTC Member Council of Legislative Assembly (MCLA) Dr. Nilut Swargiary, visited most of the sections in the hospital in Udalguri town and also checked the availability of medicines. He also inspected the attendance register and later asked the Superintendent of the hospital, Sudhir Ranjan Dey to ensure that the hospital provided better services to patients and also issued show cause notice to doctors who were not punctual in their duties.

Talking to media persons, he expressed dismay over the lackadaisical attitude of the doctors and said that if the medical staff and doctors continue to be not punctual, strict departmental action would be initiated against such erring staff. He further reiterated and appealed to the Superintendent of the hospital to report to the department about all the requirements of the hospital, including lack of adequate number of doctors, and assured of resolving the issues at the earliest.
