KOKRAJHAR: The government of BTR has decided to re-install the statue of the great political legend of the tribals Rupnath Brahma in Kokrajhar. BTC Chief Pramod Boro visited the site of the installation in Kokrajhar town today along with Kokrajhar Municipal Board Chairperson Pratibha Brahma and others.
The preparations for re-installation of the statue of Rupnath Brahma, the architect of Kokrajhar town, are on a war footing. Ignited by actively concerned citizens of Kokrajhar, the government of BTR has put its weight around the move and the statue is expected to be ceremonially unveiled very soon. The Chief of BTC Pramod Boro, visited the site this morning to take stock of the progress of the work.
Born at Owabari village attached to Kokrajhar town, was a great tribal political figure in Assam, Rupnath Brahma, who served as Minister for many years. He was also a writer, great social activist and revolutionist of Bodo culture. He was an architect of Kokrajhar town whose contributions helped the town grow.
The statue of Rupnath Brahma in front of the Pragati Bhavan in the heart of Kokrajhar town was removed some years back for construction works of extension and up-gradation of Pragati Bhaban. Citizens of Kokrajhar expressed discontentment over the long silence regarding the re-installation of his statue as many people were already anguished over the removal of his statue located at Ganeshguri point in Guwahati several years ago. The proposed installation of his statue at Rupnath Brahma Inter-State Bus Terminus at Bathoupuri, Ahom Gaon in Guwahati has also not been done. The re-installation of his statue in Kokrajhar will bring a sigh of relief for the people.
