MANGALDAI: After the countrywide lockdown was declared on the evening of March 24 to fight against the dreaded coronavirus, all men in Khaki have been deployed in different locations to render their sincere service round-the-clock. In recognition of the humble and dedicated service of all the ranks and to honour them on the very first day of Assamese New Year, Nimai Saha, a prominent businessman of the district based at Kharupetia, came forward with an unique idea to greet each and every policeman on duty with a phulam Bihuwan as a token of love and honour in the traditional way. Mediapersons Hemanta Kumar Barua and Shrawan Kumar Jha also extended a helping hand to Nimai Saha and greeted the ‘Men in Khaki’ at Kharupetia, Dhula and Mangaldai Police Station area.

In view of the prevailing situation arising out of lockdown, no police personnel were granted leave to enjoy the festivity of Rongali Bihu along with their family members. As Nimai Saha, accompanied by both the media persons, greeted them with a phulam Bihuwan, a very senior constable of the district on duty on NH-15 could not control his from tears trickling down his cheeks as he became emotional on receiving the Rongali Bihu greetings. Even home guards on duty were also offered phulam Bihuwan in different locations.
