SILCHAR: The 60th Teachers' Day was celebrated at D.N.N.K Girls' H.S School here on Sunday on the occasion of the birthday of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan.

A programme was jointly organized by the district administration, Cachar and Education Department. The function began with lighting of the ceremonial lamp and paying floral tribute at the portrait of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan by MLA Silchar Dipayan Chakrabarty , District Development Commissioner , Cachar , Rajiv Roy and other dignitaries.

Dr Bhibash Dev, retired Director of CDC, Assam University was the chief guest of the function while Amalendu Bhattacharjee, retired professor of GC College, and Amalendu Chakrabarti, retired professor of Cachar College, Silchar, were present as the guests of honour on the occasion. MLA Silchar Dipayan Chakrabarty graced the occasion as the special invitee.

Addressing the gathering, MLA of Silchar, Dipayan Chakrabarty said, "Today we have gathered here to celebrate 60th Teachers' Day. On this beautiful occasion let us take the opportunity to convey our wishes to all our teachers ,who have given impeccable contribution in shaping us."

He said that teachers were the backbone of the society, they spearhead change by shaping and building students' personality and making them ideal citizens of the country.

"There is a saying that teachers are greater than parents . Parents give birth to a child whereas teachers mould that child's personality and provide a bright future. Apart from academics, teachers stand by us at every step to guide, motivate and inspire to become better people. I would like to extend my gratitude to every teacher for selfless service and dynamic support," Chakrabarty quipped. He also announced on the occasion that a sum of Rs 5 lakh from MLALAD fund would be allocated for infrastructural development works of D.N.N.K Girls' H.S School.

While drawing the attention of DDC Rajib Roy and Inspector of Schools , Cachar, Semina Yasmin Ara Majumder, MLA Chakrabarty said that proper care should be taken for demarcation of lands of educational institutions in Cachar and boundary walls should be constructed around the institutional areas so that no one could illegally encroach the lands of educational institutions.

However, he also expressed his displeasure over the condition of few schools in his constituency. He mentioned that during his visits in few schools while vaccination drives were going on, he noticed that people suffered a lot due to poor infrastructure of the schools which also should be taken care of by the school authorities. He also sought the support and cooperation of the citizens for the progress and development of the town..

District Development Commissioner, Cachar, Rajiv Roy also spoke on the occasion. While delivering his speech he said, "On this special occasion, I wish to convey my best wishes and greetings to all the teachers gathered here and all to those who have helped me to attain success in my academics. Teachers are our second parents , teachers play a prominent part in influencing and inspiring us. It is our utmost duty to salute, convey our wishes to teachers today in recognition of their undeterred efforts. Let us take time to pay honour and admire all their contribution in elevating us."

Chief guest of the function, Dr Bhibash Dev and guests of honour Amalendu Bhattacharjee, Amalendu Chakrabarti also spoke on the occasion and expressed their feelings as well. Later, cultural functions, including recitation, songs and dance items were performed by the students. Various teachers' organizations were also felicitated by the dignitaries on the occasion, stated a press release.
