SILCHAR: Cachar police confiscated 50 thousand Yaba tablets in two separate raids in the last three days. The market value of the contraband substances would be nearly Rs 4 crore. Police had arrested three persons who were allegedly carrying the substances. Rs. 11,500 was recovered from them.

On Wednesday morning police recovered 30 thousand Yaba tablets from the ISBT complex. Two persons were carrying the contraband substances in a motorbike. They were identified as Manikuddin Laskar and Manjul Ahmed Laskar. Both of them were residents of Silchar. They were waiting for a customer in the ISBT complex, a source informed.

On Thursday, Cachar police successfully nabbed another peddler from the Madhurband area of Silchar town. One Aktar Hossain Laskar was arrested. Police recovered 20 thousand tablets from him. Drug peddlers smuggle contraband substances from Myanmar and ferry these via Silchar.

Last year police started a massive operation against various syndicates operating in Barak Valley. Few high profile traders were also arrested. However, for last few months, the syndicates started to resurface.
