HAILAKANDI: A candlelight march was organised under SVEEP to create awareness among voters here on Tuesday. Flagging off the candle march from his office premises at around 6.30 pm, Deputy Commissioner cum District Election Officer, Megh Nidhi Dahal appealed to the voters to come out in huge numbers on April 1, on polling day.

Dahal hoped that the glow of light emanating from the candles will apprise people about the importance of voting and draw them to the polling stations in a big way. Scores of residents and senior officials participated in the march and took the pledge that they would cast votes in the upcoming polls.

"The focus of today's march is to create awareness among voters especially female and young voters," said District Development Commissioner, Ranajeet Kumar Laskar. The march traversed through the main thoroughfares of the town before culminating at the Jatio Swahid Smarak. The election authorities here have taken up a slew of initiatives under SVEEP to ensure 100 per cent voting in the upcoming polls. Unveiling the mascot sparrow, setting up of selfie corners, staging street plays and launching voter express are some of the major initiatives to draw voters.
