Celebration of Raas Mahotsav at Sonitpur, Assam

Jamugurihat: Raas Mahotsav was celebrated on Sunday ( December 13 ) by Jamuguri Kendriya Raas Udjapan Samiti in the Sonitpur district of Assam. The holy festival of Raas was held at the premises of Pradarshan Bhawan in Jamugurihat, Sonitpur.

The celebration was started by BJP MLA Padma Hazarika of Sootea Constituency.

The Raas Utsav committee had organized the festival by abiding by all the Covid 19 protocol.

As the chief guests, Rakesh and Mukuta, the actors of the popular show of Assam, 'Beharbari Out Post' were present at the occasion. They also entertained the audience with their comedic performances in the program.

Speaking to the media, actor Mukuta aka Aswini Deka said, I love doing such programs. We have received lots of love and best wishes from the audience and that is enough for an artist. The love and affection of the people are unforgettable. He thanked the organizing committee for inviting them.

Earlier a few weeks back on November 30 Raas Utsav was celebrated at 'Basudev Than' Thekeraguri, Jamugurihat.

Apart from Sonitpur, Majuli, other parts of Assam also celebrated the festival in a grand way.

Raas Utsav is an annual festival held each year on the day of the Purnima (full moon) in the month of October-November in the autumn season.

Raas Utsav is also known as ' Raas Lila' is the story of the life of Lord Krishna and his many wonders which were performed on stage in various forms of play and acts during a festival.

In particular, this festival has a great impact on the life and culture of the people of Majuli. Although it is a part of the culture of the Sattras, as a festival, thus many villages celebrate the festival.

In 1840 A.D. the first Raas Lila was performed at Dakhinpat Sattra and it is continued since then with full rituals.
