NAZIRA: In Charaideo district, farmers are facing a severe water crisis, and the irrigation system has become ineffective. The machinery and pipes have rusted, leaving agricultural lands dry even during the monsoon season. With hundreds of bighas of land at risk of going fallow, the farmers resorted to a traditional ‘frog marriage’ ceremony to pray for rain.

The ceremony, held on Friday at the Sapakhati mouza’s West Balikhetia village, is based on a local belief that organizing a frog marriage will bring rain. The villagers performed the ritual with great enthusiasm, following all the traditional rites and customs. This ancient practice highlights the desperation of farmers in the region, who are struggling to access adequate water for their crops.
