TINSUKIA: A returnee from Chennai, who was quarantined at Madhania Bhawan, Tinsukia, since May 18, tested positive for COVID-19. This is the first COVID-19 positive case from Tinsukia district.

Identified as Subhankar Dohutia (24), son of Kamal Dahutia hailing from Malbhog Gaon under Saikhowa Ghat's Hahkhati gaon panchayat in Doomdooma revenue circle, he reached Guwahati by Shramik Express from Chennai and was brought to Tinsukia by bus on May 18. After testing positive, he was shifted to AMCH, Dibrugarh on Friday night. He had reportedly moved to Chennai in October, 2019.

Meanwhile, Niluram Sarma, Executive Magistrate in-charge of Madharia Bhawan, said that all passengers who had travelled with the COVID patient had been properly quarantined along with other occupants, numbering 35 and the entire Bhawan had been sanitized. Though the Bhawan has a capacity of 54, further entry to the Bhawan has been sealed, said Sarma.
