Chirang Returning Officer holds meeting with all political parties

KOKRAJHAR: To ensure peaceful conduct of election, the Deputy Commissioner of Chirang and Returning Officer, Kajalgaon Sadar subdivision, Gautam Talukdar on Tuesday held a meeting with the political parties to brief them on the procedures related to the ensuing BTC election.

The meeting held at the conference hall of the Deputy Commissioner’s office, Chirang was attended by the representatives of major political parties of the district, including BPF, UPPL, BJP, Cong (I) and CPI (M). During the meeting they were informed by Deputy Commissioner Talukdar about the BTC election schedule and the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) which has already come into effect. He asked the political parties to strictly abide by the MCC as per the guidelines and to cooperate with the election officials in keeping the Model Code in letter and spirit. He also apprised about the matters related to election expenditure, monitoring and ceiling on election expenses for candidates, including certain restrictions to be followed by political parties and their respective candidates during the election campaign.

Keeping in view the spread of COVID-19 in India, he also sensitized the political parties about the precautionary steps to be taken by them during their election campaigning to protect themselves and others from the deadly virus. He reminded them of the State Government’s order of ban on gathering at public places and imposing restrictions on social events.

In his speech, Sudhakar Singh, Superintendent of Police, Chirang urged all the workers and supporters of political parties not to take the law in their hands during the election process and to co-operate with the civil and police administration in maintaining law and order for smooth conduct of election in district. The meeting was attended, among others, by Additional Deputy Commissioners Karmadev Brahma, Biswajit Goswami, Assistant Commissioners Ringkhang Mashahary, Sangita Devi, Partha Pratim Baruah, Pulak Biswas, ALRS and officials of MCC cell, Static Surveillance Team and Flying Squads.
