DOOMDOOMA: As a part of three-day State-level training programme on ‘Role of Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) in promotion of climate action’, Viswa Yuvak Kendra (VYK), New Delhi and Ramakrishna Seva Kendra, Assam organized the first day’s programme in Doomdooma on Saturday.

Resource person, Pradip Kumar Behra said that the solution lay in our hands. To drive home his point he cited the example of ‘Forest Man of India’ Jadav Payeng who single-handedly grew a forest on the bank of a river. Again in Madhya Pradesh, 68 million trees were planted in one hour. In Arunachal Pradesh where 82 per cent is forest cover, there are as many as 200 dialects spoken by different tribes. So it becomes a problem to create awareness among them. Citing the example of China as the country is currently experiencing greatest climate damage, he said that to mitigate the ills of climate change the civil society must rise to the occasion to save planet earth from a catastrophe in the near future.

The meeting was also addressed by MLA Durga Bhumij, Programme Officer of VYK, Rajeev Nirmal and other dignitaries.
