DIBRUGARH: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma visited the ongoing stadium construction site at Khanikar, Dibrugarh today, and expressed his dissatisfaction over the slow progress of the project, which began in 2019.

During his visit, the chief minister stressed the importance of expediting the construction and directed officials and contractors to ensure its completion without any further delay.

He also announced that he would revisit the site on January 27, 2025, to assess the progress made. Then chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal had laid the foundation pillar of the Rs 139.82 crore-project at Khanikar on the outskirts of Dibrugarh town. The sports complex is being constructed with financial aid from the Centre under the Non Lapsable Central Pool of Resources (NLCPR). The sports complex, which is going to have state-of-the-art facilities for sportspersons of the region, will have an athletics stadium, swimming pool, indoor stadium, football ground, tennis courts and volleyball courts, besides housing facilities for sportspersons.
