DIBRUGARH: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma distributed bicycles and scooters to the meritorious students under various schemes in Dibrugarh on Monday.
Under Anundoram Borooah Award Scheme (ARBS), cash was distributed to 1,255 students of Dibrugarh district who secured 75% and above in the High School Leaving Certificate Examination. As a part of the Dr Banikanta Kakati Merit Award under under the Pragyan Bharti Scheme, 2593 scooters were distributed to the meritorious Higher Secondary students (490 scooters to male students who secured 75% and above, and 2,103 scooters to female students who scored 60% and above).
A total of 10,270 bicycles were distributed to Class IX students of government and provincialized schools (4,707 bicycles for boys and 5,563 bicycles for girls) under Chief Minister’s special scheme. Speaking at the programme, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said, “We want to start an educational revolution in Assam and all the students should go for higher studies instead of doing other sorts of things. After our government came into power in Assam in 2015, we have given many welfare schemes for the students and womens.”
“In GDP, Assam stands at no 17 rank in India but in the case of providing schemes to the students, Assam’s rank is number 1 or 2. The state government has also been providing free textbooks and uniforms to the students,” Sarma said.
Sarma further added, “A semiconductor unit is coming up in Assam and if we will work for 10 years, then a helicopter manufacturing unit will also come up. We have dreamt for a new and developed Assam and for that we have to work hard.”
“During the Congress’s period, people had to give bribes for jobs but now you can easily get jobs if you have merit. By taking money, Congress opened a big job market in Assam but we have changed their system and now meritorious students and unemployed are getting jobs with their merit,” said Sarma.
MP Rameswar Teli, State Ministers Jogen Mohan, Prasanta Phukan, Bimal Borah, MLAs Taranga Gogoi, Punakon Baruah, Binod Hazarika, Chakradhar Gogoi, Teros Gowala, ATDC Chairman Rituparna Baruah, Assam Gas Co. Vice-Chairman, Indra Gogoi, District Commissioner Bikram Kairi, Sonowal Kachari Autonomous Council CEM Tankeswar Sonowal, Matak Autonomous Council CEM David Chetia, DMC Mayor Dr Saikat Patra, and DDA Chairman Ashim Hazarika among others were present during the programme.
