CM Himanta lays foundation stone of bamboo industrial park at Manderdisa in Dima Hasao

HAFLONG: In his first visit to Dima Hasao after assuming the office of the Chief Minister of the State, Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday laid the foundation stone of a bamboo industrial park at Manderdisa in the district. The project will be implemented with Rs. 50 crore from DoNER Ministry. Chief Minister Sarma, while speaking in a low-key programme held to mark the laying of foundation stone, said that the project, once completed, would usher in a new era in the economy of the region and create vast employment opportunities for the local youths. The Chief Minister said that bamboo produced in the district was earlier mostly exported to paper mills. However, with the completion of the park, new avenues would open to use bamboo for production of tiles, incense stick, ceiling which would bring more economic benefit to the people.

State Water Resources Minister Pijush Hazarika, CEM of NC Hills Autonomous Council (NCHAC) Debolal Gorlosa, CEM of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council Tuliram Ronghang, MLA Haflong LAC Nandita Gorlosa, chairperson of NCHAC, Ranu Langthasa, Executive Members of NCHAC, Samuel Changsan, and others.

The Chief Minister on his way to Haflong also paid tributes at the statue of Veer Dimalik Kemprai, a great Dimasa hero who was the military general of erstwhile Hirimbapur (Dimapur) in the 13th century AD during the reign of king Makardhwaj Thaosen.

During his visit, the Chief Minister also inaugurated a home for orphans and destitute children, staff quarters and vocational training centre for children in Dima Hasao district under NLCPR scheme at Boro Haflong on Monday. The Chief Minister also paid tribute at the statue of Padma Bhushan Rani Gaidinliu, a brave freedom fighter who organized an armed freedom movement and challenged the British empire for independence of the country at Boro Haflong.
