BISWANATH CHARIALI: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma attended a series of programmes on Wednesday for the first time in Behali and Gohpur LACs respectively, in Biswanath district after taking charge as the Chief Minister of the State.

After landing at Behali, Sarma visited the Kali Temple at Borgang and offered puja there. After that, he visited the historical Gangmou Than set up by Vaishnavite saint Srimanta Shankerdev and assured all possible help for the development of the Than. He met the students in an Anganwadi Centre at Behali.

The Chief Minister also inspected the erosion-affected areas at Batiamari near Bedeti. Inspecting the site, he said that necessary measures like installation of Geo bags would be taken to stop erosion in the areas. He took part in a felicitation programme there where he announced that the erstwhile Barangabari-Monabari road would be renovated. The travelling distance between Biswanath Chariali and Gohpur will be shortened if the road is renovated.

A memorandum and datasheets were submitted to the Chief Minister by a delegation regarding the upgradation of Behali Reserve Forest. Assuring the delegation, Sarma said that within two or three months, Behali Reserve Forest would be declared a Wildlife Sanctuary and work was in progress in this respect.

Later, he proceeded to Gohpur where the Chief Minister paid homage to martyrs of the Quit India Movement, Kanaklata Baruah and Muhkunda Kakati. He also met the relatives of Kanaklata Baruah and freedom fighter Rampati Rajkhowa who had hoisted the tiranga at Gohpur police station in 1942.

The Chief Minister also visited the Kalyani (Gambhar) Temple, Dipora where renovation work is going on. He inaugurated two PWD roads, namely Swahid Mukunda Kakati Road and Swahid Kanaklata Baruah Road constructed under the Signature Project.
