GUWAHATI: Speaking at the open session of 121st Bir Raghav Moran Divas at Barekuri in Tinsukia on Thursday, Chief Minister Sonowal called upon the people of the state to emulate the life and works of Bir Raghav Moran and work to make a stronger state. Terming the Moran community as brave and workaholic, Chief Minister Sonowal called upon the younger generation to concentrate on education to take forward the state on all fronts. He also expressed his gratitude to all organisations representing the Moran community for working day and night to take the people belonging to Moran community to the path of prosperity.

Chief Minister Sonowal also said that Barekuri has a rich history as it has the proud distinction of giving birth to so many acclaimed sports persons. Therefore, to carry forward the tradition, State government has decided to set up a stadium involving financial outlay of Rs. 50 lakh. He also announced that in future as per requirement, State government would allot more fund for the purpose of the stadium. Sonowal also said that government has reached its final stage in according ST status to Moran community, the matter has reached at the final stage. He moreover said that government has taken decision to fulfil the aims and aspirations of the people belonging to Moran community through the proposed Moran Autonomous Council.

Sonowal also said that State government would consider it very positively on the demand of declaring Bir Raghav Moran Divas as a State holiday. Moreover, as per the demands of the organisations, Sonowal said that his government would set up seven auditoriums in the memory of Bir Raghav Moran at different places of the state. Moreover, a library would be set up at Barekuri area.

The programme presided over by the president of Assam Moran Sabha Dharmendra Neog, its Advisor Tarun Madhav Moran also spoke on the occasion. Union Minister of State for Food Processing Rameswar Teli, MLAs Suren Phukan, Bolin Chetia, Rituparna Baruah, President All Assam Moran Students' Union Arun Jyoti Moran, President Moran Sahitya Sabha Arun Baruah Moran functionaries from different organizations and host of other dignitaries were present on the occasion. Noteworthy earlier on the occasion of Bir Raghav Moran Divas, Sonowal paid a visit to 121 year old historic Hapjan Bornamghar and prayed there for the welfare of all sections of the people of the state.
