DIBRUGARH: Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Wednesday inaugurated the realignment of NH-37 from Bogibeel Junction to Bakul (Dibrugarh Bypass) at a programme held at Japisajia in Dibrugarh.

The construction of Dibrugarh Bypass/ Realignment of NH-37 from Bogibeel Junction at km 581.700 to km 597.147 on Engineering Procurement and Construction (EPC) basis of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has been implemented by National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited. The length of the project is 15.447 km which is constructed for a project cost of Rs. 96.84 crore. Chief Minister Sonowal, as a part of the project, also inaugurated a railway overbridge on the stipulated stretch.

Speaking on the occasion, Sonowal said that the present Narendra Modi-led Central Government after assuming power in 2014 took the initiative of bringing about revolutionary changes in connectivity of the country, especially in the Northeast, by championing the cause of 'Transformation through Transportation'. He said that Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, brought about policy changes and as result of this, Assam along with other north-eastern States had witnessed Rs 3 lakh crore investment in the road sector.

Chief Minister Sonowal also said that contrary to 60 years of rule of the Congress, the BJP-led Central government brought about unprecedented changes in the last six years. He also attributed AIIMS at Changsari, Indian Agricultural Research Centre at Gogamukh, Indian Institute of Design at Jorhat and the Multi-modal Logistic Hub at Jogighopa to the goodwill and sincerity of the Central Government. He also said that people of Assam had to resort to agitation for a single bridge over the Brahmaputra. However, now under the leadership of Narendra Modi, the Central Government had approved the construction of five new bridges over the river. He also said that in the last 15 years, the LokNirman Department constructed more than 15,000 kilometre road, besides conversion of more than 1,000 wooden bridges into concrete bridges. He also said that his government had constructed roads using pavers block in all the 850 tea gardens of the State.

Stating that the construction of Dibrugarh Bypass would help in beautification and development of the historic Dibrugarh town, Sonowal thanked all functionaries associated with NHIDCL for completing the bypass. He at the same time asked NHIDCL to complete all ongoing projects of the State within the stipulated time frame.

Speaking on the occasion, Union Minister of State for Food Processing, RameswarTeli said that the synergy between the Central and State governments had resulted in an unprecedented development in communication and transportation in the State. He also thanked Chief Minister Sonowal for bringing about extraordinary changes in the socio-economic and cultural milieu of the tea garden dominated areas in the State.

Executive Director NHIDCL gave the welcome address in the programme which was also addressed by MLA of Lahowal, Rituporno Baruah. Minister of State (i/c) Tea Tribe Welfare Sanjay Kisan, MLAs Prasanta Phukan, Naren Sonowal, Bimal Bora and Chakradhar Gogoi, and a host of other dignitaries were present on the occasion.
