TINSUKIA: Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal formally launched a scheme to promote tourism at Guijan about 8 km from Tinsukia by unveiling foundation stone of rebuilding and development of bank of River Brahmaputra (Ananta Nallah) along with protection of Sarbananda Singa Maidam Kshetra and Guijan and its adjoining areas on Wednesday in presence of State Water Resources Minister KeshabMahanta, RameswarTeli, Union Minister of State for Food Processing Industries, Sanjay Kishan, Minister of State for Labour and Tea Tribes Welfare, PradanBaruah, MP of Lakhimpur, and BinodHazarika, MLA of Chabua.

The scheme will be constructed at the cost of Rs 18 crore under NESIDS (North East Special Infrastructure Scheme) of the Ministry of DoNER. In his address, Sonowal said that the scheme would augment tourism potential in Maguri-Motapung Wetland and Dibru-Saikhowa National Park, besides uplifting the livelihood of flood-affected areas while attracting foreign tourists in the area. The scheme will also open new vistas for employment generation, Sonowal opined.
