CM Sonowal discusses means of holding examinations during COVID-19

GUWAHATI: Chief Minister Sonowal held a meeting with the Vice Chancellor of Dibrugarh University, principals of Assam Medical College and 25 other colleges to discuss ways and means for conducting online classes and holding examinations 'online'or 'offline' in view of COVID 19 pandemic at the conference hall of DC office Dibrugarh on Thursday. The meeting also discussed on National Education Policy 2020 and how effectively the policy can be implemented in the State.

Chief Minister Sonowal during the meeting also said that students are the future of the society. Therefore, during the COVID 19 pandemic, when regular classes are not getting possible, teachers should take special care for boosting the morale of the students. He also pointed out that during the present situation, the students along with their parents are passing through very uncertain situation. He, therefore, requested the teaching fraternity to be on constant touch with the students.

Referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his unrelenting demeanour to bail the country out of this extra-ordinary situation, Chief Minister Sonowal urged upon the teachers to render their academic activities simultaneously with upholding work culture of the State. The Chief Minister said that the teachers should provide the government their academic insight so that the government in return can formulate policies based on the inputs provided by the teachers.

As there is no vaccine available to fight COVID-19, the Chief Minister urged teachers, students and parents to work with "Team Assam" spirit to defeat the novel coronavirus.

The vice chancellor of Dibrugarh University while taking part in the discussion informed the Chief Minister about various steps taken for smoothly conducting graduate and post-graduate examinations in the colleges affiliated to the university. Other teachers highlighted issues faced by students in online classes and requested the CM to initiate needful steps address the challenges.

Union Minister of State for Food Processing Industries Rameswar Teli, Minister of State for Tea Tribes Welfare Sanjay Kishan, MLA Prashanta Phukan and Teros Gowala, Dibrugarh University VC Dr. Ranjit Tamuli and principals of 25 colleges were present in the discussion.

On the other hand, Chief Minister Sonowal also held a discussion with the Principal and HoDs of Assam Medical College and reviewed the steps taken for treatment of patients, especially in view of the number of positive cases rising day by day.

Later talking to mediapersons, Chief Minister Sonowal said that the State government has already urged the Union Petroleum Ministry to engaged specialists for dousing fire at Baghjan gas oil, besides requesting OIL and the ministry to release adequate compensation to affected families, stated a press release.
