BOKO/palasbari: Public Health Engineering Minister Jayanta Mallabaruah on Tuesday inaugurated the newly-established Co-District Commissioner’s office for Boko-Chhaygaon at Dakuapara, Boko, marking a significant stride towards decentralizing administrative services in Kamrup district.
The inaugural ceremony was attended by Kamrup Deputy Commissioner Dev Kumar Mishra, Boko MLA Nandita Das, Rabha Hasong Autonomous Council Chairman Sonaram Rabha, the Satradhikar of Samaria Satra, and several other distinguished personalities from the region. Addressing the gathering, Minister Mallabaruah highlighted that the new office would ensure faster and more efficient public service delivery compared to traditional centralized administrative setups. He noted that residents of far-flung areas such as Lampi and Nagarbera had previously been compelled to travel to the commissioner’s office in Amingaon for official work. “From today, essential services will be accessible right here in Boko,” he affirmed. The minister further announced that Kamrup district had simultaneously inaugurated two new sub-divisional commissioner’s offices, one in Boko-Chhaygaon and another in Palashbari aimed at reducing travel burdens, cutting costs, and enhancing administrative efficiency through decentralization of authority.
As part of this initiative, the state government appointed Priyansu Bharadwaj as Sub-Divisional Commissioner and Chandipan Garg as Sub-Divisional Police Officer for Boko-Chhaygaon, along with officers for other key departments.
Speaking to the media, Minister Mallabaruah revealed that funds expected from the Central Government under the Jal Jeevan Mission had not yet been released. To address immediate needs, the state has initiated the release of Rs 1,500 crore to contractors whose performance guarantees are on record with the Public Health Engineering Department.
“Currently, our arrangement ensures that contractors with performance guarantee details are issued their payments immediately. This will allow us to release Rs 1,500 crore to them. Discussions with the Central Government are ongoing, and while the exact date for fund release has not been fixed, I believe the Centre will take a decision soon,” he said.
